Fortress of Brancion

Being installed on the most northern pass of the Mâcon mountains, the fortress occupied a strategic position and it is in the IXth century that the Gros de Brancion family settled there.
In the 12th century, the castle was ceded to the Duke of Burgundy who established a real hamlet around the castle.
The remains of the castle, including those of the enclosure and the city gate, are classified as historical monuments.
The visit of the castle can be done freely or in a self-guided way.
