Cluny Abbey, its village and its famous stud farms

Cluny is a Benedictine abbey which was founded in 910 by William the God and obtained from then on the protection of Rome. The construction of the abbey was done in several stages and known as Cluny I, Cluny II, and Cluny III. Cluny will become an important cultural and spiritual place. But from the XIIth century, financial difficulties are at the origin of a weakening which does not
will continue to progress. It will be sold as “national property” in 1798 and its demolition begins then.
The famous Cluny stud was founded in 1807 by Napoleon I and over time it has grown and its horse population is very diverse. In 2003, it obtained the title of national stud. Numerous events are organized there, especially during the summer period.
